If you’re looking to be spoon fed a checklist, you’re not going to find it here. The “BUILD” in BUILD Framework is an acronym a la those motivational posters in elementary school. It seems a bit kitschy at first glance but the content as a whole is worth “shooting for the moon because even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”This book isn’t for those unapologetic, take-the-money-and-run type wanting to be a wolf on Wall Street or a champion poker player. Maybe the subtitle “A Heart-Based System for Personal and Professional Growth” is a dead giveaway, but this book is more about growth in building relationships and maintaining them through compassionate leadership rather than climbing the corporate ladder, leaving destruction in your wake.My Positives:It’s only 114 pages! Even though the author uses his fair share of examples to add context to the information being given, it doesn’t feel like the book length is overly inflated with copious stories and anecdotes. He includes “Action Benefit Challenges” that help to illustrate the point being made but also to give inspiration on things to do by yourself to enact the concepts. Each part of the BUILD Framework comes with 2 “success attributes” to embody that foster a better likelihood of implementation success, and 2 “emotional contractions” that are, or may, impede your success with the BUILD concepts. Most of all, I enjoyed that this book stressed the importance of authenticity and honor. I’ve read a lot of personal development books that seem to focus on the self and personal success but this book does a good job at melding success with compassion. It illustrates one of my favorite quotes: “a rising tide lifts all boats.” read less

This book is great for managers who have hit a stagnant point or new managers who want to bring a new system of management into their organization. I think the system itself is a great bridge between traditional management and unique management skills that really would set you and your company apart from others. What really spoke to me was an instance where the author introduced the idea and people could identify that they were an individual part of the BUILD system. Even looking at my current and past roles, I could see in the past where I was focused on, or solely responsible for only certain parts of the BUILD system and how the missing steps were detrimental to the entire operation. In my instance I was missing the first step ‘B’. I can think of many roles that might only consist of one or two letters in the system, especially in companies with very specialized departments that are detached from the entire process. The point though, isn’t to identify with a singular piece of the system. Everyone should be using the whole BUILD system regardless of their role. The wholistic approach definitely seems like something that would benefit many companies. The author indicates your first read through should just be a quick pass and further read throughs are important and will yield more knowledge. I would agree strongly. In my first pass of the book the new material made me want to stop and write things down, but I only pondered how my past and present management experience compared. Looking forward to a second read through to build an actionable plan for my situation. read less

I know I have so I purchased this book in hopes of reigniting the drive I once had to better myself. This book absolutely delivers that! The author is very passionate about his content; thus making the reading inspirational. It was very easy to follow, well written, everyone and anyone can apply these simple principles to their lives. It is quick and stimulating reading, and I was completely amazed when the author encouraged the readers to keep in touch and provided his website in the event a reader needed guidance or had any questions!! You don’t see that everyday!! I will continue to read this book again and again I’m sure. Well worth the investment! read less

However, personally, I felt like it was written for a certain type of person despite the clearly applicable aspects that addressed things I would implement in my own life but besides that, I felt like I was reading about ways to help other people (which is also not a bad thing). Overall, I give it three stars, because it was pretty good, just less personally my speed. read less

If you feel a situation is good or bad, he encourages to definitely listen to those internal instructions. I love how he goes back and constantly reinstills the lessons he taught in the previous chapters, that way they are always ingrained. If you are anxious to jump start your business, this book contains short chapters and with straight to the point advise. You can trust in Peitzman to give you the best first foot forward into your successful future business. read less

It is a fairly quick read and easy to grasp. The framework seeks to teach you how to get from "Struggleville" to smoother sailing for your life and for your team. JP's specific examples of real life business scenarios where BUILD has been applied were interesting and easy to understand. Whether applied to your personal or business relationships, this book can help you create deeper understanding and better rapport with others. read less

Whether that success be personal orientated or business, this easy to read-grasp book can be used as a motivational tool for self-help or a great resource for those seeking to teach others how to succeed. The “real life” examples and scenarios given throughout the book are extremely relatable and easily understood. Peitzman’s emphasizes on listening to your own intuition or “gut feeling”. If the business situation or personal situation you are in feels bad to you, then correct it accordingly. If the situation is good, the jump on that good feeling bandwagon! I enjoyed how the concepts of this book can be used both in professional and personal situations in life. Most likely, if a person is not happy with their professional life, it will affect their personal life, and vice versa. Highly recommend reading, and sharing with others! read less

The BUILD Framework is a great guide to building a successful business and overall becoming a more successful person within. I loved how the author described his personal struggles leading up to understanding and applying the Build Framework to his life. His story was more encouraging because I knew he came from a breaking point in his life as I have. I also loved how the author placed the book into a better perspective by describing it as navigation out of struggleville. I've worked with many corporate companies before but none of them has ever brought the premium leadership that the Build Framework does. As a new leader at my current job, I felt like this guide has provided me with the tools that I need to become a reliable, successful, and happy leader. I also loved how the author highlighted the struggles within having a huge effect on your professional life. Most jobs expect you to leave your feelings at the door and put a smile on your face, but this guide also helped me realize that it's okay to not be okay and that you can be successful and happy as well. read less

This piece is condensed, easy to read and is filled with colorful anecdotes and mind-opening metaphors. Most notably, the model for business and personal growth is compared to a boat and the obstacles align with the nautical theme. The acronym of BUILD and others like AWESOME also set the stage for an easy and enjoyable read that not only checks off the box for self-help but thought provoking literature as well. Unlike most business strategy advice books, Peitzman effectively interweaves real-life experience and other professional advice. The balance creates a comfortable tone that makes understanding the concepts doable and rewarding. Often, finding ideas that stick is close to impossible because there is so much information available to us but Peitzman gives us a refreshing outlook that is difficult to find in other's writings. read less

The BUILD framework addresses so many obstacles that face businesses today, whether it’s a small business or you’re just part of management or the likes. As someone who has worked in dysfunctional business environments, I really could identify with this book and the frustrations that it aims to solve. It is a good representation of how personnel relations are critical to a business and how important it is to have all members of a team “rowing the boat in the Same direction”. Would definitely recommend for business professionals who need insight on accomplishing goals and organizing their team mindset. read less
